Create something good.*

We're building a community offline.

We are creating a space open to anyone.

The papermaking process might not be for everyone, but the goal of an accessible arts space is for everyone. We’re aiming to make this space self-sustainable and zero-waste.

We are located in CDMX.

Visit our space this spring.

We are expanding our paper-making abilities.

Why the name MOTMOT?

Motmot is the name of a bird native to Mexico. "Mot mot" also translates to “word word” in French. (To print something is to be able to duplicate it ;)

When people wonder about what they can do, maybe just start at the bottom, at the beginning. In person. Community is local, even if, sometimes, everyone and everything feels far away.

*Resist doomscrolling.

Take what is necessary
~ leave what is not.

Self-sustainable?

Yes. We take old scraps of fabric and old paper and we shred them. Then we macerate these shreds and we make new paper.
So this is a studio where all supplies, materials and equipment are reused and repurposed, and not only recycled. More than this, sustainability is to be in charge of the process from start to finish, from end-to-end. From the space to work in and the materials used (presuming a matrix is to be "permanent") to the actual creation of the piece itself.
Do you think it's something that we could even work out with giclée? Maybe!  *giclée is a neologism and a fancy word for inkjet

We are a collective.

Why are we doing this? Good question.

We can't have a real discussion about promoting excellence in the arts if we don't have spaces to produce art ~ in any form. Let's establish a sphere that everyone has access to before we speak of practice, perfection, or otherwise. It's not referred to as "des arts et des lettres" for nothing.* Printmaking and print-media, both could probably benefit from a more conscious and deliberate process again.
*Literary arts (letters) together with the fine arts and the performing arts.
